How has Dresden been transformed since the beginning of the 21st century? The establishment of large chip manufacturers in Dresden since the 1990s has culminated in the relocation of TSMC and ESMC to the north of the city. SiliconSaxony is celebrating, while members of the skilled trades and SMEs are more critical. Both with well-founded arguments.
But is the discussion really only about the interests of the semiconductor industry, which is often little understood by the general public, or is this a unique opportunity to catapult the tri-border region of Germany, the Czech Republic and Poland (back) into the premier league of industrial growth centers in Europe with the expected investments of more than 30 billion euros, with an impact on society, art and culture?
